In 1984, the industry’s first free-form amino acid products in preservative-free capsules with only active ingredients were marketed. The manufacturer's name was Ultra Amino, and they were ahead of the curve in providing physicians with amino acids free of excipients. Their initial success led them to expand their product line to include more conventional nutritional supplements and to change their name. Metabolic Maintenance Products, Inc., is now based in Sisters, Oregon.
