Teen Program - What to Bring, What to Expect

You are coming to a beautiful setting in the desert to begin your journey to a life free of disordered eating. Your ability to follow the program as prescribed by the treatment team enhances the benefits you will receive in your healing.

What to Bring

Mirasol is located in the Arizona Sonora desert and the climate can vary from morning until night. Make sure you bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat or cap, walking shoes, a jacket, a swimsuit for the pool, and a small backpack. Please bring your most comfortable and casual clothes. When packing your toiletries, include some lotion because the air is very dry.

Please bring a one-month supply of medications. All medication must have a current prescription in the pharmaceutical container. Do not bring samples. You will need to bring your medical insurance card, a cell phone or pre-paid telephone card, and a small amount of cash for outings. You will be given two visits to the Mirasol physician and two visits to the psychiatrist. If further visits are deemed necessary, you will be responsible for payment. You are also responsible for the cost of any supplements, herbs (we can sell these at wholesale costs), and labs and special outside consultations recommended by our staff. A credit card needs to be on file with our business office.

Other items to bring include: hair dryer, favorite pillow or blanket, stuffed animal, pictures of family or loved ones, stationary and stamps. Mirasol has laundry soap and a washer and dryer for your use. Mirasol supplies all of your linens and towels. You are welcome to bring some of the above mentioned to make your room more special to you.

Tampons, sanitary napkins and other personal products must be packed in original, unopened containers.

What Not to Bring

Additional items not to bring include laxatives, candy bars, diet pills, alcohol, drugs, sweeteners, weapons and anything that could pose a danger to yourself or others. To keep Mirasol a safe place for all residents and staff, we will search your luggage and take items that are not good for you to have during you stay at Mirasol.

What to Expect

Orientation upon arrival including luggage search; preparing occasional meals with staff assistance; no television; no exercise outside of supervised walks and yoga for one week; and weekly blind weighing. As part of your individualized treatment plan, you will be given an exercise routine that is especially designed for you. Aqua aerobics, physio balls, light weights, walking, and time at the gym may be a part of your plan in conjunction with yoga.

Phone calls are scheduled for weekends only; there are no incoming calls unless the staff approves of the call. Incoming calls from family members will be routed to a staff member. Your first week will be spent with evaluations and getting acclimated to the Mirasol community.

** All nutritional supplements brought to Mirasol must be sealed. Opened supplements will be taken by the staff and stored in the staff office. Supplements will be returned to the client once they have been discharged.
