New Alumni Telegroup

Mirasol now offers a monthly telegroup for women who graduated from the Mirasol adult unit. The telegroups will be held the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm PST. This group will provide an opportunity to share with other Mirasol graduates as well as hear ideas about what is helpful for women once they return to their home environments.

If you would like to participate, please send an email to atwilley@mirasol.net. Once we receive your email, we will send you the call-in phone number and access code.

Group Format

On the telegroup day and time, dial the phone number provided, and, when prompted, enter the access code. When a chime announces your presence, please introduce yourself.

  • The first five to ten minutes of the telegroup will be devoted to checking in with feelings and identifying who would like to take time to share.
  • Next, we will ask participants to share their experiences using specific interventions, support, or recovery tools that they have found helpful.
  • Participants will then be given additional time to talk and may receive feedback if they so choose.
  • Finally, we will check out with feelings and each participant will be given an opportunity to make a specific commitment for the month that contributes to her recovery process.

Group Guidelines

This group is an opportunity for individuals to come together and share feelings in a safe supportive environment. It is not meant to take the place of medical and/or therapeutic care, but to compliment your professional support. Seek medical advice of you think you need medical support.

In order to respect the “triggers” that each one of you may have, PLEASE:
  • Do not give unsolicited advice
  • Avoid discussing numbers of calories, fats and nutritional facts
  • Weight (or pounds lost or gained)
  • Tips on how to perpetuate an eating disorder (ie how to purge, lose weight, types of pills or other self-destructive behaviors) or diets of any kind
  • Recognize that there are various kinds of eating disorders (ie anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, compulsive overeating and others)
  • Express your concerns/feelings in a respectful way: “When you, I feel……”

A participant may be required to be under the ongoing care of a psychological or psychiatric licensed professional in order to participate in this group. If at any time the participant is no longer appropriate to be in the group, the participant will be asked to seek a higher level of support.

Online Support Group for Mirasol Alumni

Our online support group has served for years as a place where people with eating disorders can share experiences, where friends and family can share questions and find answers and where everyone can share hope, courage and strength.

The online support group includes a private forum for Mirasol alumni only. If you would like to participate, sign up at www.mirasol.net/support, then send an e-mail to the forum administrator requesting that she add additional privileges to your login ID so that you will be able to view and reply to posts on the private alumni forum.
