I worked with Mirasol for a little over a year. I attended their Residential Treatment Center (RTC), Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Their different levels of care allowed me to move through my treatment in a phased approach, gave me the time to figure out the best next steps to take in rebuilding and re-entering my life — while ensuring that my recovery was my first priority.
At Mirasol you aren't "just a number," or an obligation. Your treatment team is well-rounded, providing you with a psychiatrist, primary therapist, dietician, nurses, and doctors. The treatment team cares about you as a person and customizes your treatment plan to your unique, individual needs. Before I came to Mirasol, I was in a pretty bad place — rock bottom if you will. During my treatment, my mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness and passed away. Had it not been for Mirasol and my trust in my treatment team, I would not have made it through this difficult time, having already been in a bad place prior to the news of my mom. I am 100% certain I would have relapsed. I was ready to quit and run. However, my treatment team rallied around me and supported me so strongly that I made the decision to stay in treatment, and my recovery, throughout one of the worst situations anyone should have to experience. They surrounded me with understanding, love, support, and structure — they treated me like family. However, they of course did not cut me any slack on the treatment end (which, in hindsight, I appreciate).
While at Mirasol I was able to identify, confront, work through, and eventually accept (or mostly accept) the issues that lead up to — and surrounded — my eating disorder, anxiety, depression, grief, ADD nd PTSD. Mirasol's holistic approach to treatment allowed me to work towards fully healing — not just to cope with symptoms. It's not an easy journey by any means. Mirasol taught me to take ownership of my own recovery. I had to really want healing and recovery for myself. My recovery was my choice and my decision alone, and they made this point very clear to me throughout all levels and phases of my treatment. Your team will help in equipping you with what you need to get to your goal, but they will not make or force you to do anything.
Mirasol allowed me to take control and ownership of my life and my choices. They helped me to realize my potential and learn how to rewrite my story — embracing both the "good" and the "bad" to move forward in life. I will be forever grateful to my treatment team at Mirasol — especially my primary therapist, Amber, who supported me and saw me through a very difficult, but rewarding recovery journey. I would highly recommend Mirasol for anyone who is currently struggling with an eating disorder, or has a loved one who is struggling with one. It was the best decision I have ever made for myself. Mirasol helped me choose life again, and again, and again. — KATHRYN

When my parents told me that I had to go into a residential treatment center, I was not happy. Months passed and I got admitted into Mirasol at my lowest weight. It was very challenging and the most definitely the most difficult time of my life. But it was so worth taking some time for myself to help me get back on track and straighten up my life. I loved how we all had our own individual meal plans, and the food was AMAZING. We would get a variety of foods and even though I am an extremely picky eater, I managed to get through it ;)
If you're reading this, and you're thinking about going to a treatment center, or your parents are already making you go to one, PLEASE COME. You will be the happiest you will ever be, trust me. I am in recovery and even though it's been tough, it's been so worth it. And I would recommend this place to ANYONE for help. You are worth it. Kick your eating disorder's butt and choose recovery... because it's amazing... :-) — MA
Just wanted to again express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to be in residential treatment.
It was an integral part of my road to healing — work I could never done elsewhere. You have all been so amazing!
My favorite one is of the ...... charge. — Sincerely, C
It's Valentine's Day, and this is my valentine to Mirasol:
I am in in love with life, and the beautiful person I have become. How many women do you know who can honestly say this?
When I left for Mirasol, getting out of bed was a chore. I found it hard to smile and quite frankly to live. Today, I can honestly say it's hard to go to sleep because I so look forward to waking up tomorrow. I love my life. It's a simple concept, but at one point in time it was something I thought I'd never obtain. I am no longer an under-eater, an over-eater, an exerciseaholic. I'm back to my life. I go to class now and look forward to helping people. This could have never been possible without first helping myself. Mirasol helped me help myself, save myself. Who would have thought that I could be this happy? I love the skin I'm in. I love the person I have grown to become. I am my own valentine. — Sincerely, AC
Mirasol not only saved my life, it changed my entire outlook on life. I was introduced to a whole new way of living — a holistic, organic, authentic way that was instrumental in my healing process and continues to be a huge part of my daily life post-Mirasol. My view of what is possible in the world and what I am capable of was expanded dramatically during my 60 day stay at Mirasol. My creativity ... was finally allowed to reemerge and I loved the formal introduction to my inner child who I have continued to develop a beautiful relationship with ever since.
The staff at Mirasol had a profound positive impact on my recovery, and never in my life had I been exposed to so many healers in one place and in such a nurturing environment.
The guidance, wisdom, education and tools I received at Mirasol have allowed me to break past barriers which I was formerly hiding behind. During my stay, I began to develop the most important relationship in my life — the relationship I have with myself and my body and that has been the most positive life-changing experience I have ever had. Thanks to what I learned through Mirasol, I am able to love, respect and honor myself and the wisdom of my beautiful body. —Forever Grateful, DC

I was at Mirasol in the summer of 2001. It's hard to believe it has been over a decade since I was in treatment. I don't have the right words at the moment to express how thankful I am for you and for Mirasol, and how instrumental to my health and sanity it all was. — PM
